The Music Madness Weekend (Part 4 - Zack)

Don't ask him anything about Jesus. This might sound odd, but that is exactly what the Holy Spirit told me as I sat down across from Zack at our art booth. So I didn't say one word about Jesus.

Zack and I talked about how he had just moved to Little Rock. How he had taken up art a few months before, thanks to his roommate's influence. About his love for gardening. About his mohawk. Vincent [another YWAM staff] and my mom sat and talked with us. [We were all so grateful for the older moms, my mom, Charlotte, Barb, who came with us... so many ... especially the young men, hung out with us simply because they wanted to be near a 'mom.'] None of us mentioned Jesus.

Many who came simply needed "mom" hugs

Zack sat with us for almost an hour. It was evident by the end of the night, that Zack had come to the event by himself. He had no friends with him. The entire time I felt like what Zack needed right then was healthy conversation, healthy interaction, where he felt loved and wanted. If he associated that with Jesus, he would love Jesus.

Throughout the entire conversation, we all painted and drew. Each of us, gave Zack the drawings or paintings we made for him. On the back of my painting for Zack, I wrote a simple note to him of my prayer that he would experience true peace through Jesus Christ.

We began to pack up to leave for the night. Zack promised to come back the next day to finish his drawing. And he did. Vincent, my mom and I were not at the art booth the next morning when Zack came back. But the staff who were there came to love Zack as quickly as we had the night before. Zack painted for another hour, until his masterpiece was complete.

I couldn't help but see God's hand in Zack's life. If Zack had not joined Ameri-Corp only a few months earlier, moved to Little Rock, gotten interested in art, and decided to spend his weekend at the Music Festival, we would never have met him or been able to share with him HOW much Jesus loves and accepts him. What a divine appointment!
